Do you have UAC enabled? Did you run nmap in a command prompt opened with elevated privileges? You open an elevated command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt link and using "run as administrator". Hope it helps GV ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nelson, Mark - IS" <NelsonM () VitranExpress com> To: <nmap-dev () insecure org> Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2007 12:55 PM Subject: vista issue
I am running version 4.20 of nmap and version 4.0.1 for winpcap on Vista Professional and get Starting Nmap 4.20 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2007-07-26 15:54 Eastern Daylight Time dnet: Failed to open device eth4 QUITTING! I have googled this error and tried the suggestions notated....running elevated privileges, turning off UAC, going to the beta version of winpcap etc...but still get the same error. Here is the output of my nmap -iflists...the subnets have been changed but not the hosts. Any suggestions besides switching off vista? (would love to but corp reasons won't let me) C:\Users\nelsonm>nmap --iflist Starting Nmap 4.20 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2007-07-26 15:44 Eastern Dayligh Time ************************INTERFACES************************ DEV (SHORT) IP/MASK TYPE UP MAC eth0 (eth0) (null)/0 ethernet up 1E:ED:20:52:41:53 eth1 (eth1) (null)/0 ethernet up 1E:ED:20:52:41:53 eth2 (eth2) (null)/0 ethernet up 1E:ED:20:52:41:53 eth3 (eth3) (null)/0 ethernet up 1E:ED:20:52:41:53 eth4 (eth4) 10.10.10.240/24 ethernet up 00:19:B9:46:38:A2 eth5 (eth5) (null)/0 ethernet up 00:19:B9:46:38:A2 eth6 (eth6) 192.168.119.1/24 ethernet up 00:50:56:C0:00:01 eth7 (eth7) 192.168.163.1/24 ethernet up 00:50:56:C0:00:08 ppp0 (ppp0) (null)/0 other up ppp1 (ppp1) (null)/0 other down lo0 (lo0) 127.0.0.1/8 loopback up net0 (net0) (null)/0 other up net1 (net1) (null)/0 other up net2 (net2) (null)/0 other up net3 (net3) (null)/0 other up net4 (net4) (null)/0 other up net5 (net5) (null)/0 other down **************************ROUTES************************** DST/MASK DEV GATEWAY 255.255.255.255/32 eth4 10.10.10.240 255.255.255.255/32 eth7 192.168.163.1 10.10.10.240/32 eth4 10.10.10.240 10.1.1.255/32 eth4 10.10.10.240 255.255.255.255/32 eth6 192.168.119.1 127.0.0.1/32 lo0 127.0.0.1 127.255.255.255/32 lo0 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255/32 lo0 127.0.0.1 192.168.119.1/32 eth6 192.168.119.1 192.168.119.255/32 eth6 192.168.119.1 192.168.163.255/32 eth7 192.168.163.1 192.168.163.1/32 eth7 192.168.163.1 10.1.1.0/0 eth4 10.10.10.240 192.168.119.0/0 eth6 192.168.119.1 192.168.163.0/0 eth7 192.168.163.1 127.0.0.0/0 lo0 127.0.0.1 224.0.0.0/0 eth7 192.168.163.1 224.0.0.0/0 lo0 127.0.0.1 224.0.0.0/0 eth4 10.10.10.240 224.0.0.0/0 eth6 192.168.119.1 0.0.0.0/0 eth4 10.1.1.4 _______________________________________________ Sent through the nmap-dev mailing list http://cgi.insecure.org/mailman/listinfo/nmap-dev Archived at http://SecLists.Org
