I'm all for a new features branch if developers find it convenient.
It can be a good place to test things out.  Though I'm fine with the
traditonal approach of sending patches too.

Even after the big stable release, we'll have to set a high bar for
new features.  Nmap has packed on a lot of weight over the summer and
we need to let it settle a bit.  But we can certainly let some things
into the trunk as long as they are cool and/or unobtrusive enough to
justify it.

Would the LibNmap project allow the externalization of some of the
add-ons to keep the nmap.exe smaller with modules for extra features?
Or is it just for NSE scripts?
