SoC Recruiting

Hi folks. As you've seen on this list, there is already solid
interest in Nmap SoC and ideas are flying around. Google is accepting
student applications until this Friday at 19:00 UTC, but now isn't the
time to just sit back and hope for the best! The key to SoC success
is recruiting great applicants!

Sure, some students already know they want to apply for SoC and a tiny
fraction of those will choose Nmap from among the 150 listed
projects. But SoC is too important to limit ourselves to those few
people who trickle down from the Google interface. SoC previously
brought us projects such as NSE, Zenmap, Ncat, 2nd generation OS
detection, and the network topology mapper. It also brought us great
developers such as David Fifield, Doug Hoyte, and Patrick Donnelly.

So I'd like your help in spreading the word about Nmap SoC! If you
know any talented college/grad students or participate on forums where
they can be found (social networks, web forums, mailing lists, etc.),
please encourage them to apply for Nmap SoC. They get valuable
experience writing open source code for the summer, and also a $5,000
stipend. You can point them to:

Of course if you are eligible yourself, you're encouraged to apply.
You need to be "enrolled in or accepted into an accredited institution
including (but not necessarily limited to) colleges, universities,
masters programs, PhD programs and undergraduate programs". Part time
students are OK. The core programming period is May 24 through August
16, and we can work around some vacations, etc.

I'm hoping to see some fantastic applications!
