Are you sure it's not proxychains that caused the segmentation fault?

Just a suggestion, but you may want to try Proxychains-ng instead. There is
a known problem with Original Proxychains and the way Nmap resolves
addresses: http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2014/q4/54
