The alternatives I’ve seen raised would not be adequate for me. Specifically, depending on people to forward their stuff to the list is too brittle (people won’t do it reliably), and watching an XML feed requires setting up and maintaining software for a new data feed.
I am in full agreement with Reid's message, with the added suggestion that any such messages that don't wind up on the mailing list won't be available for the insightful discussion that frequently occurs here, and replacing this list with an XML feed torpedoes most hope for same. khm
