need help with usb cable

Yeah, unfortunately, it will affect it. :-(  The "stuff" in the middle,
is at a minimum a TTL level shifter.  Pry that bad boy open and trace
the pinout to the chip specs  :-)

Or pick up an FTDI cable form LadyAda...

then use your multimeter to check continuity on the pins to the existing

I should have added, there is a bit of circuitry in the cable as well
that does come conversion - all I know is voltage dropping. Not sure
if that will affect it but I'll certainly give it a go.
