I've used live demos in my lectures before, and generally I've found: 1. People have a certain tolerance for some failure, as long as SOME things work right or you are conveying the information properly. 2. It never hurts to practice/replicate the demo HUNDREDS of times before you go :-) Just my two cents :-) -----Original Message----- From: pauldotcom-bounces at mail.pauldotcom.com [mailto:pauldotcom-bounces at mail.pauldotcom.com] On Behalf Of Chris Teodorski Sent: Friday, September 04, 2009 9:55 AM To: PaulDotCom Security Weekly Mailing List Subject: Re: [Pauldotcom] Tips on teaching security So what is the general consensus on using demos in a talk, good, bad? I'm giving a talk at the end of September on the OWASP top 10 and Mutillidae and I'm debating demo or no demo? If I do a demo it will be a screencast, because I'm not willing to sacrifice my first born, I'm kind of fond of her. On Fri, Sep 4, 2009 at 9:42 AM, Adrian Crenshaw<irongeek at irongeek.com> wrote:

it's
good to have a back up plan.
