Hey Mike,I´ve seen seen it and looked into it slightly. But I´d like to prefer a solution which could be done with on-board means. But I´ll consider rootsh, too.

Have you looked at rootsh ? http://sourceforge.net/projects/rootsh/ It covers the requirement of logging root activities. You could require all user's that are going to root with sudo, to type: sudo rootsh and it gives them a root shell, and logs all the commands they are typing to.
