We found that Retina seems to give false positives if you are logged in to the target system (or have implicit access e.g. as Domain Admin). However with no authentication on the target it gives reliable results. I have assumed that it is checking the existence of specific files on the target rather than whether the respective services are running ...

As for their tech support, it hasn't been great but at leats we get replies which is more than we did with ISS Internet Scanner problems :-\
