I am about to be purchasing a laptop and I was wanting the advice of the list. I know this can be a very personal topic for some people, but I have to throw it out there anyway.
<snip> I like my 3200+ AMD64 e-machines w/15.4 screen, 80gb drive & 1.5gb RAM a lot. I run SuSE 9.1 64-bit as the base OS with VMWare Workstation to run Windows 2003, 2000, 98, and FreeBSD when I need them. Very fast, though processor is 2.6ghz, it blows the doors off the fastest P4 as does the Opteron over Xeon. If you are going to be pen-testing, you definatley need Linux as most of the tools you will be using are open-source.
