Hello prdp, In my oppinion, to start your journey as pen tester you will need basic understanding of the TCP/IP protocol. Basic programming skills (c comes to mind) Moderate knowledge of OS of your choice. A good reading material source: white papers, online magazines, books. Perhaps the most important: patience and lots of practise. Note: There are many free and commercial tools at your disposal. I suggest to start with auditor live cd.
