I have done this before like the last reply but also used a capture tool (e.g., tcpdump or snort) and capture only the initial traffic coming from the attacker. If using TCP, as the first response indicates (Bojan), the sequence numbers associated with the traffic coming back from the target will break the TCP session. Tools like Blade Software "IDS Informer" are designed to do this as long as you get the development kit. With that tool in particular it can translate the IP addresses for you from captured traffic so that they can be sent on the live wire. I had used this tool for testing the IDS that my former company built. However, I noticed rather unexpected signatures in some of their attack corpus that made me realize I should just wrap my own compiled attacks with a generator to ensure i know what traffic I am sending. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This List Sponsored by: Cenzic Concerned about Web Application Security?
