IMO, the real problem with Live CDs - they usually don't contain
particular driver for your wi-fi card, I found this for Knoppix 3.5 and my
wi-fi card Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 BG, laptop IBM T42. Although, there
are drivers for linux - ipw2200, I use them with Gentoo distr.

Hi list!
When using your live cd through a virtual machine (such as vmware), the
virtual network card is usually some kind of 'detected everywhere' model. Vmware provides a bridging functionnality, which will directly link the virtual card to the real one, whatever model it may be.
Runnint the live cd directly from boot may in some configurations, prevent
the network drivers from loading correctly.
