The questiion is how are you there so to speak - ie in what role/position. As an intern, are you on a contract or employed. What are you employed as? Now first, I assume a little in your own time means that this is gratis? This is not for money? If so you can not make a contract. A contract requires consideration to be valid. This could be enacted under a deed, but how much are you willing to spend to have a deed of assent drafted? If you are employed, than an email stating that you have premission from someone with authority will suffice. How necessary would it be to get written permission before I take any action? The Admin/CTO is a pretty good friend and I doubt would even consider taking any legal action if anything happened. If I do need a contract or something could someone point me in the direction of a template. I have never even seen such a contract/agreement before and I would never be able to write one up on my own properly.
