Hi all Davide regarding your question ; this is our explanation : As of release 6.2, the OmniPCX Enterprise Communication Server security has been enforced introducing security by default mecanism. This implies systematic password change for default accounts to avoid default well known passwords to be present into the system. So this level of assurance can be ensure for all new installations. Concerning version upgrades, considering this process can be scheduled automatically without human supervision, it is not possible to force passwords change without breaking service continuity. Our strong recommendation for all the installations before the R6.2 is the security administrator MUST to change the default password by new passwords according our password recommendations ( 8 alphanumeric characters at mimimum). Don't know if they were an upgrade to the old PABX4400 or fresh installations... Anyway, ALCATEL should strongly consider to implement a "start up" procedure to force password changing for default accounts. My 2 cents. Regards, jean-pierre.kellermann () alcatel fr wrote:
Hell all Thanks Luis Lopez for mentioning this major evolution in Alcatel product
line of large PBX which happened in 2003 with the release of the successor to the 4400: the OmniPCX Enterprise IP-PBX running on the Linux kernel. At that time a major effort has been made on security aspects with a lot of hardening being performed on the operating system (Linux), the run-time environment and offered services, selection and configuration of applications running on this platform.
Alcatel strongly recommands to upgrade the old version of PABX4400 to
IP-PBX OXE to benefit the last features and the customer will have a VoIP solution which will give satisfaction to his security needs.
End 2005 Alcatel's voice solution OmniPCX Enterprise underwent testing
performed by MIERCOM which is a privately held network consultancy, specializing in networking and communications-related product testing and analysis. The security efforts Alcatel made over many years on this solution have been rewarded by Miercom which recognized the Alcatel IP-PXB as the most secured PBX for the Enterprise in 2006. Alcatel is constantly evaluating and refining its security strategy
regarding all the solutions provided by ESD, Alcatel has also established security internal processes for Proactive awareness : education, design practices, tests and for Improved reactivity when facing security alerts.
