Dear Unknown, You are free to prefer any software as per your will. Technitium MAC Address Changer v3.1 has all the features SMAC has. I am coding Technitium MAC Address Changer v4 which will have many more features than SMAC. Still, v4 will be FREE. Finally, changing MAC address is basically changing a registry value. Paying anything like USD19.99 for software which effectively changes a registry key is stupidity as per my views. Regarding the questions by which you are convinced ... I have some answers: 1. Is your software opensource? Ans: No. No need to open source as it changes only a registry key. Its a simple VB6 app. 2. Is your software going to stay free forever? Ans: Yes. Technitium MAC Address Changer will be free forever. Is it pinching you? If yes, then probably you are from KLC Consulting. I have lot more software to release still ;) 3. Do you offer free technical support? Ans: No. If you want to change MAC address, proably, you know why you are doing so. Pen-testers and security professionals dont need tech support as they are tech support! Any question about me? I am a IT student, have good hand in hacking stuff, a good programer, Certified Ethical Hacker by EC-Council, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), persuing to be Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP). I have used SMAC since 2002 and I have just got SMAC 2.0 Professional. It is a outstanding reliable tool for my training and pentest jobs. KLC Consulting is giving FREE Licenses of SMAC 2.0 Professional Edition to Authors and Trainers. Since I am a trainer, I got it for free. (check out the SMAC website: http://www.klcconsulting.net/smac) With SMAC 2.0 I can pre-load MAC Addresses into the MAC List so I can choose MAC Address I want to spoof from my list. It saved me a lot of time when doing demos and when I go to client sites to do various testings. You said IPConfig is not important, however, all my students want to use IPConfig during the demo to prove that MAC Address is spoofed from Windows point of view. So, here is the question, convince me: Is your software opensource? Is your software going to stay free forever? Do you offer free technical support? (if I ever need it) If not, I am probably going to stick with SMAC 2.0 where I know the quality is good and I can get free tech support when I need it. It's probably not a big deal to anyone (and I might be wrong), but with CISSP behind the SMAC development, it give me just a little peace of mind for this type of tools. /s
