Subject: Promiscuous mode doesn't work on Intel 3945 wireless

I am having trouble getting my laptop to go into promiscuous mode on its wireless connection.

It's a Dell Inspiron 640m with an Intel 3945abg wireless card.

Promiscuous mode doesn't work in either Windows XP or in Ubuntu linux (it's configured for dual booting). Using
wireshark, if you try to use promiscuous mode to capture packets, it won't capture anything at all. It only captures
packets if promiscuous mode is turned off.

Is this a known limitation with this wireless card? Or is there a configuration trick I'm missing?

Paul

In /etc/modprobe.conf:

alias wlan0 iwl3945
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=0
