Altogether, they claim that Bush's victory margin was in fact 3279." http://www.perpetualelection.com/article.pl?sid=00/11/24/2245204&mode=nested Nader's Chump Change Solution posted by roscoe on Saturday November 25, @04:33AM from the cheap-quick-fair dept. Ralph Nader proposed an inexpensive solution to the Perpetual Election -- the venerable coin toss. According to Nader (see Nov. 22 Denver Post article), the longer the standoff continues, the more ballots will be mishandled and tainted. "It's razor close, and the margin of error is bigger than the margin between them," he said. "Whoever wins is going to have half the nation against them. It's going to leave a bad taste in the American people's mouths." So, with all the earnestness that only the nation's original consumer advocate can muster, Nader proposes that Al Gore and George W. Bush settle the standoff with a coin toss. The event would be televised live across the globe with "the biggest audience in world history." http://www.perpetualelection.com/article.pl?sid=00/11/25/0757208&mode=nested U.S. Supreme Court Joins The Fun posted by cosmo on Saturday November 25, @02:45AM from the supremely-annoying-isn't-it? dept. Just when some people thought this Sunday might bring them relief from the Perpetual Election, the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to step in. Dec. 1 is the date set for the highest court in the land to hear Bush's appeal to bar hand-counted ballots. Here's the AP story. http://www.perpetualelection.com/article.pl?sid=00/11/25/1717228&mode=nested Harris Gets Help From Republican Flacks posted by cicero on Saturday November 25, @12:14PM from the road-to-victory-group dept. Katherine Harris is using GOP PR flacks, according to a report on washingtongossip.com. It says: "Although Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris denies shes getting direct help from the GOP in the presidential vote battle, her press agents are funded by deep Republican pockets, The Tallahassee Democrat reports. When the vote recount turned into a crisis, the Florida official turned to The Victory Group, a Tampa-based Republican media group. The Victory Group received nearly $2 million, including media buys, from the Republican Party of Florida and Florida Republican candidates in this election cycle as of October, according to state campaign finance records, the newspaper reported. The consulting firm also worked on New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's short-lived Senate campaign. Ben McKay, Harris chief of staff, denied any direct input from the GOP. As the national and international media began streaming into Tallahassee, it became clear she needed help, McKay said, adding that Harris chose The Victory Group because she had worked with its owner, Adam Goodman, during her 1998 election campaign. "For the first few days, Adam has been giving me advice in terms of things, do's and don'ts, and working with the international media, and helping to set up the press center," McKay told the newspaper. Those consulting sessions included a Sunday evening telephone conference call the day before Harris announced she would stand firm on her deadline for counties to report their election results." ------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- the moderated mailing list of politics and technology You may redistribute this message freely if it remains intact.
