NSA to hire 600 IT workers

FEB. 26—The supersecret National Security Agency on Saturday opened the doors of its headquarters at Fort Meade, Md., for its first job fair.

The agency is looking to hire 600 workers with experience or education in computer science, mathematics, engineering, signal analysis, data collection, cryptanalysis and intelligence analysis.

"The recruitment event is part of a larger strategy to recruit the diverse, highly skilled work force needed to meet the challenges of the 21st century,'' officials said in a prepared statement. They said old hiring methods must be changed to meet today's needs.

Not only is NSA short on skilled technical workers, but it is also looking to hire nine high-level officials, including a chief information officer. The agency's Web page at www.nsa.gov/programs/employ/index.html invites users to apply online to become the executive who keeps NSA in line with the Information Technology Management Reform Act.

You're about to enter a whole new world...to explore an opportunity with one of the most important and advanced agencies of its kind. Get ready to be surprised and inspired.

At the NSA, you will join an organization that is charged with carrying out a number of the country's most important and sensitive intelligence activities. Our ongoing mission involves monitoring and gathering foreign Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) from around the world - much of it protected by codes, ciphers and complex electronic countermeasures at the same time, we try to prevent our adversaries from gaining access to our own vital U.S. communications through the information systems security (INFOSEC) mission. But that's only the beginning. We also analyze and distill this information, ultimately transforming it into key global intelligence that is used by U.S. government decision makers at the highest levels. We are constantly asking the big questions, with the full realization that their answers can profoundly affect the future. We have a question for you. Are you ready to explore an NSA future?
