[First-name-only anonymity requested. --Declan] --- Hi Declan, I'm not sure if this is relevant to your list, but Singapore's method of dealing with SARS has been interesting, to say the least. One way they have been trying to involve the public in being more responsible is by use of 'Contact Bowls', where people are encouraged to leave their business cards or fill out their details on a standard form (to help with contact tracing should a community outbreak occur). These bowls sit in shopping malls and eating establishments. Although they promise the cards and forms will be destroyed after two weeks, the potential for abuse (by those responsible for the bowls and those not) is pretty damn huge. http://www2.mediacorpsingapore.com/articles/features/view/409/1/.html http://www.sars.gov.sg/archive/Food%20Court%20Introduces%20Contact%20Tracing%20Using%20Computer%20Software%20(CNA).html http://www.channelnewsasia.com/cna/technology/tech/270503sms_contact.htm http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/41036/1/.html Andrea ------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- Declan McCullagh's politics and technology mailing list You may redistribute this message freely if you include this notice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to Politech: http://www.politechbot.com/info/subscribe.html This message is archived at http://www.politechbot.com/ Declan McCullagh's photographs are at http://www.mccullagh.org/ Like Politech?
