The article on GNU 64-bil PL8 compiler may be of some interest to secure
coders. It speaks of language design, code validation suites for compilers,
code reviews, etc.

Others of lesser interest.

Of interest - using GNU software for 64-bit microcode (aka millicode)
generation.

The architecture of the zSeries hardware is interesting also. Capacity is
build in but capped. Capacity on demand is available with microcode
upgrades (for a fee, of course). See, for example, literature on the z890
and z990 processors for details.

Some interesting articles at
http://researchweb.watson.ibm.com/journal/rd48-34.html

1) "Millicode in an IBM zSeries processor"

2) "SCSI initial program loading for zSeries"

3) "The GNU 64-bit PL8 compiler: Towards an open standard environment for
firmware development"

The last one is VERY interesting!
