Newbie in Snort

Hi, 

I'm new in Snort and Guardian.
I use the Redhat 7.1 and installed the Snort 1.7 from a rpm.
How I may configure to start the Snort?

Which file will be for Snort logs and for Snort Alert messages.
Then I understand the alert file is need for Guardian, isn't it?

I tried to read the FAQ and documentantion but it's not very clear for me.

Any help is appreciated.
