Killing snort removes log file

Using snort 1.8.3 (build 88) on Solaris 7.

When I kill the snort process that is running, it removes the log
file.  This only happens on one of my systems.  Anyone else seen this
behaviour?

Also, can two processes run and log to the same log file?
