Building a static snort

Does anyone have a quick 10 step guide for which files snort requires
in order to build it in a chrooted environment?

btw, configure with OpenSSH has a --with-ldflags which passes flags
to the linker, can we have this option in snort's configure so that
we can easily build a static binary and therefore a more secure and
more easily chrooted snort.
