Thanks for your advice, it seems to work fine so far. I have however
one question about the stats. Here is what I've tried:

# PCAP_VERBOSE=1 PCAP_FRAMES=1000 PCAP_STATS=0xff PCAP_PERIOD=10000 ./tcpdump -ttnqv >/dev/null
libpcap version: 0.8.1104
Kernel filter, Protocol 0300, MMAP mode (1008 frames, snapshot 68), socket type: Raw
tcpdump: listening on eth0
S:1038413659.152064 1311 0 1313 0 1220 144082 151086
S:1038413669.153880 1645 0 1643 0 1597 167778 177252
S:1038413679.156034 1792 0 1792 0 1715 176721 187039

I'm confused about the various statistics described in
README.ring:
 - how can the "Packets seen by device" (column starting with 1220) be
less than the "Packets total" (column starting with 1313)?
 - why don't we have "Packets processed" + "Packets dropped" +
"Packets ignored" = "Packets total" (on the second line)?

Cheers,
