Jarrett, - What does CVS stand for? Concurrent Versions System - If someone says "Get the latest CVS" does that mean to get the latest "snapshot" from www.snort.org? You need to use a Client GUI is available from: http://www.cvsgui.org/ to extract the files from the CVS tree. There are others, like WinCVS that will work. The Snort CVS is located at http://sourceforge.net/ - When compiling, how do you configure snort for MSSQL on a Windows system? On Visual C++ there is a build pull down that will allow you to build any one of the different versions of Snort. Its really very easy with Microsoft Visual C++. Hope this helps -Michael -- Michael Steele | System Engineer / Support Technician mailto:michaels () silicondefense com Silicon Defense: IDS solutions - http://www.silicondefense.com Snort: Open Source Network IDS - http://www.snort.org -----Original Message----- From: Jarret Gibson [mailto:jarret () osa comax com] Sent: Friday, October 25, 2002 11:56 PM To: Michael Steele Subject: Re: [Snort-users] What 1.9.x versions work with MSSQL? I'd definitely appreciate it. I feel a little out in the cold, though. I mean, I'm certainly not a newbie to most of this stuff, but there are so many things that make me feel like one. For example: - What does CVS stand for? - If someone says "Get the latest CVS" does that mean to get the latest "snapshot" from www.snort.org? - When compiling, how do you configure snort for MSSQL on a Windows system? I appreciate you offering to compile that for me on Monday. It will be a big help :D Jarret Gibson ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Steele To: 'Jarret Gibson' Sent: Friday, October 25, 2002 9:22 PM Subject: RE: [Snort-users] What 1.9.x versions work with MSSQL? From Silicon Defense. When I asked Roman Danyliw about it, I got this
response: "There were a couple of bugs in detecting the presence of MS-SQL Server in the release of Snort 1.9. These bugs have been addressed in CVS. Update and manually rebuild snort, or wait for a binary release. Roman" I compiled the latest Snapshot version from www.snort.org using Visual C++, but I have no clue how to compile it with the MSSQL support it needs. So, I've had to go back to 1.8.7 for now :\ Jarret Gibson ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Steele To: 'Jarret Gibson' Sent: Friday, October 25, 2002 8:00 PM Subject: RE: [Snort-users] What 1.9.x versions work with MSSQL? Any of the precompiled MSSQL versions of 1.9.x I've tried are bugged :( Does anyone out there know of a precompiled 1.9.x version for Windows that definitely does work with MSSQL? If not, could someone give me any hints as to how to compile snort with MSSQL support using Visual C++? I downloaded and compiled one of the latest snapshots from www.snort.org , but I have no idea on how to use the configure script using "--with-mssql" switch it refers to. Any help would be appreciated since this 1.8.7 version is annoying me :D Jarret Gibson ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ApacheCon, November 18-21 in Las Vegas (supported by COMDEX), the only Apache event to be fully supported by the ASF. http://www.apachecon.com _______________________________________________ Snort-users mailing list Snort-users () lists sourceforge net Go to this URL to change user options or unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/snort-users Snort-users list archive: http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=snort-users
