I suggest you print this one out:
http://www.snort.org/docs/snort-rh7-mysql-ACID-1-5.pdf

It's based on RH7.3 (I think), but any Linux will probably fit. With
this document and enough peanuts you might even get a monkey to install
Snort... O and look up a linux-how-to or something...
