I have around 3 million entries right now.  I haven't setup an archive yet,
because I was planning on monthly archives.

How many entries do you have?  I have 800,000-ish thanks to that damn
cyberkit thing, and I have the same problem.  I'm in the process of
moving those over to the archive DB and then I will run vacuum on it
(postgres).
