RE: SNORT and Linux 8.0

So the original poster did not correctly identify the OS version. He may well not claim to be a Sr. Principal Consultant in Linux, or even in IDS or security. Perhaps he simply has that .sig file attached to every email he sends. Would you expect him to be an expert in asian-fusion cooking if he sent an email to a food related list simply because he had that signature attached? Granted, (it appears) he totally mistook "RedHat <==> Linux" and this is a *below novice* error, but nowhere do I see anything that indicates he is selling himself as a Linux consultant (or even that the question was related to a consulting gig. He could be beginning to play with it at home to try to learn something...). If you look at the web-site, you will notice that it is a "Management Consulting Firm" and doesn't appear to advertise itself as having a focus on computer security. Of course, the original poster should have clearly put a bit more effort into "RTFM" (reading the "Friendly" manual...) before posting such a basic question (I believe snort has built and run flawlessly on RH8 for hmmm... nearly *ever* ) Maybe this should be taken to "alt.flame-wars.intolerant-of-newbie-postings" (or /dev/null, whichever is closer) Cheers, Jim -----Original Message----- From: snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net [mailto:snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net]On Behalf Of Thompson, Jimi Sent: Monday, February 02, 2004 12:16 PM To: 'Dave Randolph'; snort-users () lists sourceforge net Subject: RE: [Snort-users] SNORT and Linux 8.0 Why?
