Is the MySQL server running? -- ps -ax | grep mysql Are you able to connect via mysql -uroot -p at the command line? Have you read the manual? http://www.snort.org/docs/snort-rh7-mysql-ACID-1-5.pdf -- is one of them, _very_ well written.
