Snort as IPS

Hi All, short question: Can Snort work as an IPS instead of an IDS? I know the Guardian-addon for reconfiguring IPFilters, but thats not what IĀ“m looking for. I need an IPS, that drops Packages when they arrive. Can Snort do this job?
