Error compiling Snort 2.1.3 RC1

I am attempting to compile 2.1.3. RC1 on Sun Solaris 8.

I get most of the way there before:
"Undefined symbol IXDR_GET_LONG first referenced in file 
detection-plugins/libspd.a(sp_rpc_check.o)
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to snort"

Any ideas?  I've never seen this before...
