There are a lot of factors that go into a MySQL database getting full.. Some
of them that you might want to consider:

Hardware - Especially memory, It is cheap so max it out.
Software - There are some ways to tweak MySQL so you can get the most
performance from it.
Query - Depending on how your queries are structured this can greatly
slowdown or speed up a query.

I have been doing a lot of performance testing and I have a few million
events in a MySQL database. Depending on the query it will take anywhere
from .01 second to 10 minutes on a p4 2.4Ghz with 1gig of Ram. I would
suggest tuning your queries and you will be able to get 10+ million events
in the database without too much difficulty and get acceptable response
times on a machine with a little power and memory.

Cheers,

Jeff
