Gigabit snort box

I am putting together a plan for some new snort boxes and was looking
for some input from the list. I now have to start monitoring some new
gigabit links from our ISP. The traffic load should not exceed 50Mbps.

Here are my IDS specs:

OS: FreeBSD 5.3
CPU: 1x Intel 3.0GHz CPU
MOBO: Intel based with 2 64bit PCI slots
RAM: 1GB
NIC: 2x Intel PRO/1000 XF Server Adapters (82544EI)

I'm using a NetOptics gigabit tap to monitor the connection.

Is this hardware sufficient?
What are you good/bad experiences with the intel cards in freebsd?
Any recommendations or insight on monitoring gigabit connections is 
welcomed.
