Snort: undefined symbol: LibVersion

Hi All
I have just installed snort 2.8.5.3 on Centos 5
when I try and run
snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf
I am getting this error

Fatal Error, Quitting..
I have looked on the net but cannot find an answer. Does anyone have any 
ideas
