Yes. Actually, it was stuck and required a restart. This happened once
before. It was found to be a NIC card error on one of the ethernet ports. I
disabled that ethernet port and then restarted snort and the server and
everything worked fine for a week. After which the machine got locked
again. Very unsettling when we can pinpoint the issue. :(

what do you mean by "hanging"?? if you mean "locking up and requiring a
reboot"
then i'd be looking at a hardware problem... especially memory and
drive... i'd
be testing that memory and memory subsystem with memtest86+ and letting it
make
numerous rounds thru all its tests... for the drive, that's going to take
the
manufacturer's diagnostics disk... if both of those come up clean, then it
is
possible that it is heat related (cpu fan stopped up) or power supply
related...
too low power can cause weird problems...
