My scope would be more directed at other schools. The thing and big debate that we're running into is the P2P stuff and 
file sharing.

I have snort deployed at the egress points, in front of the firewall, and on the general LAN.  It takes a while to get 
things fine tuned, but once you get it there, you'll have excellent visibility into the traffic at your organization.
