One thing which I want to point out is that the output of the following

command:

"rpm -q libpcap"  shows -------> libpcap-0.9.4-14.el5

"rpm -q libcap"   shows --------> libcap-1.10-26 libcap-1.10-26 (Why
twice?)

libcap and libpcap are two completely different things...

also, it isn't just the package you need to have, but the development
package so that \

the necessary header files can be found and used...

(Salvo) Thanks for trying to assist me.

I don't think that's so easy. I have been troubleshooting for a while and
also installed CentOS today (2.6.18-348.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jan 8 17:53:53 EST
2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) and reached exactly the same error,
even downloading the libraries from the CentOS RPM. My feeling is that some
libpcap libraries work fine for Fedora or SLES and don't work for Red Hat
5.3 and CentOS. Perhaps I just need to find the exact libraries for my O.S.
version. I will continue the investigation. What I really need is the exact
list of dependencies and packages versions for my O.S. versions. I know that
the DAQ README file shows it but following that requirement doesn't work.

This is what I have in CentOS so far:

rpm -i libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64.rpm

warning: libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64.rpm: Header V3
RSA/SHA256 signature: NOKEY, key ID c105b9de

error: Failed dependencies:

        libpcap = 14:1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6 is needed by
libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64

        libpcap.so.1()(64bit) is needed by
libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64

        rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by
libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64

        rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by
libpcap-devel-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64

So, I need to look for additional packages and see what will come up.

Salvo
