One question regarding the graph that I am getting in Zabbix. Can we configure the graph to get the stats in percentage 
rather than getting it in number of packets? If yes, request you to kindly let me know the places where I need to do

Thanks Eric for your response. 

Your input was really helpful for me to move further and configuring Zabbix. Yes, there was permission problem and I 
have fixed it. After fixing, the command worked for both root and zabbix user.

Can you run the following command as root (this is from your post) and see if there's output?
snort.perfmon[*],tail -n1 '/var/log/snort
   /$1/snort.stats' | awk -F ','  '{print $ $2}'

The command starts with the 'tail -n 1', sorry about that I just copy/pasted from my phone so it's like arm wrestling 
with a candy bar.

Then can you 'su - zabbix' and rerun the command and she if it works? It might be a permissions issue.
