It would help if you could send a copy of your snort.conf file. But here are a couple things to check…

1) Did you include the global settings for stream as well?

2) When you used the “bind_to” you need to specify a default policy.

I have attached a conf file with vista as the policy and bound to 10.1.2.0/24. The default policy is set to windows.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Snort-users] Cannot bind address and add more OS Policy for Stream5 TCP Preprocessor

Hello,
I want configure Stream5 TCP Preprocessor to bind a specific IP Address and handle more OS Policy that currently, I set
it to use Windows Vista Policy but when I add "bind_to 10.1.2.0/24<http://10.1.2.0/24>" before "policy vista" or add
"preprocessor stream5_tcp: policy linux, detect_anomalies" and then restart Snort, I got this

---------------------------
"WARNING: Stream5 TCP misconfigured (policy 0).
ERROR: Stream5 not properly configured... exiting
---------------------------
I configure as the document. So, I am confused why I got that error message.

Here my current Stream5 TCP preprocessor:

preprocessor stream5_tcp: policy vista, detect_anomalies, require_3whs 180, check_session_hijacking, \
   overlap_limit 10, small_segments 3 bytes 150, timeout 180, \
