I understood the tap/span part. Kindly confirm if the syntax for BPF for allowing  only one direction of traffic would 
be in this format?

!(dst net 10.10.0.0/16) &&

OR

!(src net 192.168.0.0/16) &&

From snort itself you could use some for of BPF filter, or configure the tap/span to only send one direction of 
traffic, if possible.   To snort, it's all inbound in IDS mode.
