it looks like you're on a 64-bit system:
       checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

try running the other ./configurre comand (referencing the 64 bit
libraries):
./configure --with-mysql --with-mysql-libraries=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
see if that works
