Use example.c and example.h in snort.c

Hey everyone, i wanna replace the detection engine of snort with some
simple functions, thus i am trying to integrate a .c file in snort.c.
how to achieve this? say i have example.h and example.c and i want to
use them in snort.c, where to add these in the makefile?
