There are 3 ways to do web applications (of course there are more, but
we can break
things down to 3 types. Or better 4 but Client Side Scripting is not
really an option
for a complete Web Application...): - Scripting (ASP, PHP, Perl, ...) - Enhanced Applications (C, ... via CGI or something equal) - Frameworks (Java, .NET)
In my opinion, you should consider adding a 4th one, which is a Content Infrastructure software, such as Vignette. Although sharing a lot of common practices with Scripting and/or Frameworks, Content Infrastructures have some unique characteristics. They are aimed at allowing you to create 'standard' web apps in relatively short time, and have a lot of already written components which mostly require customization. Ofer.
