Thank you for this suggestion. This will be a good start. --- On Thu, 7/22/10, Tal Bar-Or <tbaror () gmail com> wrote: From: Tal Bar-Or <tbaror () gmail com> Subject: Re: [Wireshark-users] Measuring bandwidth, bad packets, latency To: "Community support list for Wireshark" <wireshark-users () wireshark org> Date: Thursday, July 22, 2010, 10:27 AM Hi if you using windows for testing i suggest Ntttcp this util will test and report throughput but also lots of hardware NIC info if you are using Linux i suggest using IPERF this util will report also throughputbut for hardware NIC info you will need to use wireshark 802.3 info to check if are errors Regards On Thu, Jul 22, 2010 at 4:25 PM, JM <hondgm () yahoo com> wrote: Hello, We're going to do some Ethernet physical layer testing, basically testing the effects of different types of cable (for industrial/automotive). For the most part, this will simply involve a single link with varying qualities of cable between the two PCs. Since I've already used Wireshark to analyze packets, I was thinking maybe it could also do this. I've done some searching, but didn't find much. What I'd like to have is two computers, or maybe just one with two NICs, send traffic through the link and report what the throughput, latency, error rate, etc is. If Wireshark isn't able to do this, or if an add-on isn't available, does anyone have any suggestions? Free/open source is of course preferred. ___________________________________________________________________________ Sent via: Wireshark-users mailing list <wireshark-users () wireshark org> Archives: http://www.wireshark.org/lists/wireshark-users Unsubscribe: https://wireshark.org/mailman/options/wireshark-users mailto:wireshark-users-request () wireshark org?subject=unsubscribe -- Tal Bar-or -----Inline Attachment Follows----- ___________________________________________________________________________ Sent via: Wireshark-users mailing list <wireshark-users () wireshark org> Archives: http://www.wireshark.org/lists/wireshark-users Unsubscribe: https://wireshark.org/mailman/options/wireshark-users mailto:wireshark-users-request () wireshark org?subject=unsubscribe
