While I attribute the warnings to the WIP status of this work messages
that contain stuff like "CRITICAL" or "assertion" followed by "failed"
make me a bit nervous.

I think the assertion is in the experimental code to build the 
statistics GUI parts. I could get rid of it by commenting that code out 
for now.
