dissect encrypted news group stream (news reader is thunderbird)

I tried to adapt a hint from heise.de to decrypt https streams (this here :

$> export SSLKEYLOGFILE=$HOME/ssllog/ssl-log.txt
$> firefox &
$> wireshark &

works)

to thunderbird.

The export was accepted by thunderbird - it creates the file.
But when I read messages eg from gentoo.linux.dev from my preferred
server news.eternal-september.org then in wireshark I cannot see the
decrypted stream.

Does wireshark lacks functionality WRT nntps protocol or is this just
PEBKAC ?

I'm not subscribed therefore pls Cc: me.
