Help needed regarding plugin/.so file

Hello,

Somebody has given me a plugin (.so file ) and he is saying that he has compiled it with wireshark version 1.4.0. Now 
my problem is I don't know what to do with this file? Where should I add this file in the code? Any help would be 
appreciated.
