I can duplicate the issue here by changing the main window font preference to Fixedsys. It looks like it might be due 
to https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-57180. A fix was backported to the 5.12 branch recently, so it should 
hopefully be in 5.12.6: https://codereview.qt-project.org/c/qt/qtbase/+/277322.
