As far as I'm aware, network maps are discovered by tracing routes to different networks, querying the routers for the routing table, arp table, arp cache etc (using SNMP). There are many tools out there which do this and M$ Visio AutoDiscovery is one of the best I can quote. I can't make out any possibility of drawing network maps using just the zone files. I usually come across clients who allow zone transfers and we are able to see names of all their servers and IP info. It is possible to draw quiet a detailed network map from this info. Are their any tools that do this? SKP This message is confidential and may also be legally privileged. If you are not the intended recipient, please notify postmaster () wilco-int com immediately.
